This premium trail spans a gorgeous array of diverse ecosystems, starting with a trek through a remote, lush rainforest on Day 1, before climbing steadily into the wide-open, rocky moorland zones during Days 2 and 3. Detailed program

Meeting point :  Arusha, Tanzania

Day 1Londorossi Gate to Mto Mkubwa (Forest Camp).

Details: Begin trek through montane forest.

Your grand expedition begins with a scenic drive to the western side of the mountain at Londorossi Gate for registration, before heading to the trailhead to step directly into the ancient, untouched montane forest ecosystem. You will navigate a quiet, winding trail under a dense canopy of lush trees where exotic birds and black-and-white colobus monkeys thrive, enjoying a peaceful introductory hike before settling down for your first night at the Mto Mkubwa camp.

Day 2Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

Details: Ascend through heather/moorland zone to the Shira Plateau.

Leaving the forest canopy behind this morning, you will tackle a steeper, more open trail that transitions rapidly into the striking heather and moorland zone. You will climb steadily over scenic ridges and across volcanic rock landscapes, breaking through the clouds to emerge onto the vast, breathtaking western rim of the Shira Plateau to spend the night at Shira 1 Camp.

Day 3Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Details: Cross the plateau, offering panoramic views of Kibo.

Today features a gentle, scenic trek directly across the vast plateau, which is one of the highest caldera plains on earth. As you hike over this wide-open volcanic expanse, you will be treated to spectacular, unobstructed panoramic views of the majestic, snow-capped Kibo peak ahead, arriving at the elevated Shira 2 Camp in time for a relaxed afternoon to aid your acclimatization.

Day 4Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Details: High-altitude acclimatization day, crossing through the "Shark's Tooth" (Lava Tower) to the scenic Barranco Valley.

This is a foundational, challenging acclimatization day utilizing the critical "climb high, sleep low" strategy to prepare your body for the thinner air ahead. You will ascend steadily into a stark alpine desert landscape, climbing to the imposing volcanic formation of Lava Tower—often called the "Shark's Tooth"—at 4,600 meters for lunch. Afterward, you will descend into the giant-senecio-filled Barranco Valley to sleep at Barranco Camp.

Day 5Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Details: Tackle the steep Barranco Wall and hike to Karanga Valley.

The morning kicks off with an exhilarating, hands-on scramble up the famous and steep Barranco Wall, a rewarding rock face that requires a bit of non-technical climbing but rewards you with breathtaking vistas of the southern glaciers. Once over the top, you will traverse a rolling landscape of hills and valleys before descending into and pulling out of the scenic Karanga Valley to reach your camp.

Day 6Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (High Camp)

Details: Short, steep climb to the arctic desert camp for summit prep.

Today features a relatively short but physically demanding uphill trek through a desolate, windswept arctic desert landscape as
